The southern United States has been hit hard by deadly tornadoes, leaving at least 26 people dead and many more injured. According to NPR, the destructive storms swept through Alabama and Mississippi on March 25th, causing widespread damage and power outages.
The hardest-hit areas include Calhoun County, Alabama, where multiple tornadoes touched down, destroying homes and uprooting trees. Emergency responders have been tirelessly searching through debris to find survivors and provide medical assistance. President Biden approved emergency declarations for both states, which allows federal assistance to be provided for recovery efforts.
This is yet another tragic reminder of the unpredictable and destructive power of nature. As we continue to grapple with COVID-19, it’s important to remember the ongoing threat of natural disasters and the importance of being prepared. Knowing what to do in the event of a tornado, hurricane, or other severe weather event can save lives.
Our hearts go out to those affected by these devastating tornadoes, and we applaud the bravery and dedication of emergency responders and volunteers working to assist communities in need.
