Recently, I read this article about a weatherman, Chris Gloninger, who quit his job because of threat of death! Crazy right? He was delivering a segment on climate change when he received a message that said “You better watch your back from now on some body might just pop one in ya”. I mean, I wouldn’t blame him for feeling terrified.
The article talks about how he was shocked to see the violent reaction he received only for talking about climate change. Apparently, there are still people out there who don’t believe in climate change and get triggered by anyone who speaks about it. It’s upsetting to see that in a time when climate change is wreaking havoc on our planet, there are individuals who are willing to resort to violence to maintain their beliefs.
The article goes on to mention that this is not the first time Gloninger has received threats. In fact, he had been receiving them for years but finally decided to quit after the latest one. It paints a really worrying picture of how divided we are as a society when it comes to accepting climate change as fact.
Reading this made me think about those times when I’ve engaged with individuals who are skeptical about climate change. I mean, I believe in it wholeheartedly and am shocked when people say they don’t. But the idea of someone getting so defensive about it that they resort to violence is downright scary.
In conclusion, it’s disheartening to see an individual lose their job and have to worry about their safety just for talking about climate change. It reminds us that there is still so much work to be done to educate people and create a safer world for everyone. We all need to work together, listen to each other, and move forward with empathy and patience.
