Vietnam has just recorded its highest-ever temperature, with the northwestern town of Dien Bien Phu hitting a scorching 44.1C on May 17, 2021. The previous record was set in 2019 when Huong Khe hit 43.4C. This recent heatwave has also triggered some related phenomena such as wildfires and droughts that have destroyed many crops and caused water shortages in certain northern provinces. Experts say the rise in average temperatures and soaring heatwaves is a result of human activities such as fossil fuel burning and deforestation. Climate change has become an increasingly pressing issue worldwide, and as extreme weather conditions become more common, it’s essential to address the root causes of global warming. At the same time, developing countries like Vietnam need financial aid and technological support to mitigate the impacts of climate change. The Vietnamese government has proposed measures to conserve energy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, but individual actions such as using eco-friendly products and minimizing energy usage are also necessary to combat this phenomenon.
