Fishing and climate change threaten the open ocean. The high seas treaty could help.

So, I read this super interesting article about how fishing and climate change are seriously affecting the open ocean. It made me think twice about what I’m putting on my plate when I order seafood at a restaurant.

Basically, the article talks about how overfishing and warmer ocean temperatures are screwing up entire ecosystems in the open ocean. And it’s not just about the fish - the entire food chain, from zooplankton to whales, is getting messed up.

But here’s the kicker - there’s actually a treaty being negotiated right now that could help protect the high seas (which are basically areas of ocean that don’t belong to any one country). Think of it like creating a protected national park in the middle of the ocean.

I don’t know about you, but I think that’s pretty damn cool. It’s like we’re finally starting to take responsibility for our impact on the planet, and trying to come up with solutions for the future.

Based on my own personal experience, I think it’s important for us to all do our part in protecting the ocean. That means being conscientious about what we eat, supporting sustainable fishing practices, and using our voices to advocate for better policies.

Overall, I thought this article was a wake-up call that we can’t just take the ocean and its resources for granted. We need to start thinking about the long-term consequences of our actions and make changes before it’s too late.
