Four tornados confirmed Saturday night in Eastern Carolina

This weekend, eastern North Carolina was hit by a series of devastating tornados. Four of the twisters have been confirmed so far, with more potential sightings currently under investigation. The National Weather Service office in Morehead City reported that the first tornado was spotted at about 7:25 p.m. and was rated EF-2, meaning it had wind speeds of up to 125 miles per hour. Among some of the areas affected are the communities of Columbia, Belhaven, Pantego, and Pinetown, with images surfacing on social media of destroyed buildings and downed power lines. Luckily, no fatalities or serious injuries have been reported at this time.

It’s always frightening to hear about natural disasters like these tornadoes, but it’s even more concerning to know that we’re seeing more of them than ever before. The last few years have seen an increase in tornado activity, with many communities struggling to stay prepared for the worst. The best thing we can do in times like these is to stay informed and stay safe. Make sure you’re aware of any tornado warnings in your area, and have a plan in place for what to do if a tornado does hit. With preparation and alertness, we can help minimize the damage of these catastrophic storms.
