Greenhouse gas emissions rose at ‘alarming’ rate last year, US data shows

Greenhouse gas emissions increased at an “alarming” rate last year, according to a new US report. The data shows that carbon dioxide levels rose by 3.4% in 2019, the biggest increase in a decade. Emissions from natural gas and oil also increased, while coal use declined slightly. The rise can largely be attributed to economic growth and extreme weather conditions, such as heatwaves and wildfires. This report highlights the urgent need for action to combat climate change and reduce emissions. Despite some progress in renewable energy and sustainable practices, it is clear that much more needs to be done to protect our planet and future generations. The findings serve as a wake-up call to governments, industries, and individuals to take responsibility and take action towards a more sustainable future.
