So, I came across an interesting article about Henrico County Extension hosting an Urban Tree Weather Preparedness program on June 22. Basically, it’s all about how to take care of trees in urban areas during extreme weather conditions. I know it sounds boring, but trust me, it’s actually pretty cool.
First off, they’re going to talk about how to choose the right trees for your area and how to plant them in a way that will help them weather storms better. They’ll also cover how to prune trees to prevent them from getting damaged by high winds.
But my favorite part is that they’re going to talk about how to properly water trees during droughts. I never realized that over-watering can actually be harmful to trees, and that there’s a science behind finding the right balance! I guess I’m learning something new every day.
The reason this program is so important is because trees contribute to the overall health and well-being of our communities. They absorb pollutants, provide shade and cool down our cities during heat waves, and generally make our environment a more pleasant place to be. And, let’s face it, they’re pretty to look at too.
Overall, I think the Urban Tree Weather Preparedness program is definitely worth checking out if you’re interested in learning about how to take care of the trees in your area. I’ll definitely be signing up for it myself!
