So I recently read an article about Indonesia’s plan to build a new capital city called Nusantara. Apparently, this has been in the works for years, but it looks like it’s finally going to happen. I don’t know about you, but when I heard this news, the first thing that came to mind was “why?” I mean, Jakarta, the current capital city, is a massive hub for business and culture. It seems crazy to me to just up and move everything somewhere else.
Anyway, the article explains that one of the main reasons for the move is to alleviate the burden on Jakarta, which is facing a lot of problems due to overpopulation and pollution. By moving the capital, the hope is that they can create a more sustainable, high-tech city that can better handle the demands of the future. They also want to make it more accessible to people all across Indonesia, not just those living in the Java region.
What’s interesting to me is that this isn’t the first time Indonesia has tried to move its capital. Back in the ’50s, they moved it from Jakarta to Yogyakarta because they were worried about an invasion from the Dutch. And before that, they moved it from Surakarta to Yogyakarta because of a massive earthquake. I guess you could say they’re used to this kind of thing.
All in all, I think this is a pretty ambitious project. It will be fascinating to see how it develops and what kind of impact it has on the country as a whole. It may not happen overnight, but I’m definitely rooting for them to pull it off. After all, who wouldn’t want to live in a sleek new city called Nusantara?
