NJ climatologist on hurricane season forecast: "It's not the worst news"

As hurricane season approaches, many are concerned about the potential impact of these powerful storms on the east coast of the United States. However, according to the State Climatologist of New Jersey, David Robinson, the upcoming hurricane season may not be as devastating as some fear.

Robinson explained that several factors are contributing to a relatively mild hurricane season forecast. One of the primary reasons is the current oceanic conditions, which are not particularly conducive to storm development. Additionally, weather patterns such as El Niño and La Niña, which typically influence hurricane activity, are currently in a neutral phase.

While there is still a possibility of severe storms striking the east coast, Robinson stresses that preparation is key. In fact, he recommends that those in hurricane-prone areas prepare for the worst-case scenario, regardless of the forecast.

Hurricane season is always a concern, but Robinson’s insights provide a glimmer of hope for those in areas at risk for these storms. Nonetheless, it is important to take weather warnings seriously and be prepared for any potential disasters. By staying informed and taking preventative measures, individuals and communities can better withstand the impacts of hurricanes.
