Oregon wildfires Pacific Power trial: Witnesses testify

So, I just read an interesting article about the Oregon wildfires and a Pacific Power trial. Basically, Pacific Power is being held responsible for a wildfire that devastated a town in Oregon back in 2018. Witnesses are testifying in court about all of the factors that led up to the wildfire, from high winds to trees falling on power lines. It’s crazy to think about how something as simple as a tree falling on a power line could cause such a huge disaster.

According to the article, Pacific Power had been warned about the dangers of their power lines many times before the wildfire happened, which is not a good look for them. But even more interesting to me were the stories in the article from people who lived in the town that was affected. One person talked about having to evacuate their home with only a few minutes notice, grabbing whatever they could carry and leaving everything else behind.

Personally, I’ve never had to evacuate because of a wildfire, but I do remember a time when my power went out for a few days because of one. It was crazy how one small thing (a tree hitting a power line, I found out later) could affect so many people’s lives. It really makes you think about how we need to be more careful with these kinds of things.

Anyway, it’s pretty clear that Pacific Power messed up big time, and I hope they take responsibility for their actions. It’s scary to think about the power that big companies have, and how something like this could happen again in the future if we’re not careful.
