I just read this article about Pakistan and how they’re still dealing with the aftermath of last year’s horrific floods. It’s crazy to think they’re already bracing for more flooding this year. Basically, there are a few factors at play that are exacerbating the situation. One is deforestation which has led to soil erosion, making the land more vulnerable to flooding. Another is global warming, which is causing more extreme weather patterns.
I remember last summer when my hometown had a severe thunderstorm and the streets were completely flooded. It was wild seeing cars floating down the streets like it was a river. But that was just one storm and we had the infrastructure to handle it. Imagine dealing with that kind of flooding on a yearly basis with fewer resources.
It’s gut-wrenching to think of the people affected by these floods - losing their homes, their possessions, and in some cases, their lives. It’s important that we pay attention to what’s happening and try to help in any way we can, whether it’s through donations or advocating for more sustainable practices. This is a global issue that affects us all, and we can’t just turn a blind eye to it.
