I just read this article about people moving to Florida despite all the natural disasters, floods, and climate change that happen there. Crazy, right? But when you think about it, Florida is pretty darn appealing. Warm weather, beautiful beaches, and no state income tax. Oh, and Disney World. Can’t forget about that.
Anyway, the article talks about how more and more people are migrating to Florida every year, despite the risks that come with living in a state that gets hit by hurricanes and floods on a regular basis. Apparently, Florida’s population has grown by over 14% in the past decade, making it the third most populous state in the U.S.
The article also highlights some of the ways that Florida is trying to prepare for the effects of climate change, such as building seawalls and elevating roads. But it’s not just natural disasters and climate change that people have to worry about if they live in Florida. They also have to deal with things like sinkholes, alligators, and the occasional python.
Personally, I’ve been to Florida a few times, and I can definitely see why people are drawn to it. The beaches are gorgeous, the food is delicious, and there’s always something fun to do. But I don’t think I could ever live there full-time. I don’t think I could handle the constant threat of hurricanes and flooding.
Overall, I think this article is important because it shows how people are continuing to pursue their dreams and make choices based on what makes them happy, even in the face of adversity. It also underscores the urgency of addressing climate change and preparing for the inevitable consequences that come with it.
