I came across a really interesting article that reports over 7,000 people were evacuated in Cuba due to extensive floods. Basically, a tropical depression had caused heavy rainfall leading to flooding in the city of Guantanamo and the surrounding areas.
The authorities quickly responded and evacuated residents to nearby shelters, however, the floods caused a lot of damage and people lost their homes and possessions.
What struck me about this article was the resilience of the Cuban people in such difficult circumstances. It’s not easy losing everything you own but the way they pulled together and supported each other during the evacuation was really inspiring.
Flooding is becoming more and more common across the world due to climate change and it’s important that countries come together to help those affected and work towards reducing carbon emissions to prevent further damage.
It’s easy to feel helpless in the face of such big issues, but we can all make a difference by making small changes in our everyday lives. Reducing meat consumption, using public transportation, and being mindful of energy consumption are just a few examples of ways we can help.
