Severe Weather Awareness Week day 4: Family preparedness

So I was reading this article about Severe Weather Awareness Week and the focus was on Family preparedness. It caught my attention because, let’s be real, when catastrophe strikes, it’s always good to be prepared.

The article outlined some important things families should consider when putting together an emergency plan. Some of the main points were making sure you have a designated safe place in case of tornadoes or other disasters, having a communication plan in place (like a family group chat), and having a disaster supply kit stocked with essentials like water, canned food, and first aid supplies.

Personally, I know how essential it is to have an emergency plan in place. A few years ago, I was living in Houston when Hurricane Harvey hit. My family and I had a plan and had supplies ready, but I still remember how stressful it was. The power went out and we were stuck in our house for days. We were lucky compared to some of our neighbors who had to be rescued by boats. But the experience really drove home the importance of being prepared.

All in all, I think this article is a great reminder to take the time to make sure that your family and loved ones are prepared for emergency situations. It’s not something you ever want to have to use, but it’s always better to have a plan in place just in case.
