Spring storm to dump up to 18 inches of snow in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula

A Spring storm is set to hit Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, and the forecast shows a significant amount of snowfall - up to 18 inches in some areas. As the warmer months approach, this wintry weather comes as a surprise to locals and tourists alike.

The National Weather Service (NWS) predicts that the snowstorm will start on Wednesday night and continue through Thursday morning. The heaviest snowfall is expected in the Keweenaw Peninsula, where up to 18 inches of snow may accumulate. The rest of the area could see between 6 to 12 inches of snow.

It’s worth noting that this amount of snowfall is not unheard of in the Upper Peninsula during Spring. In the past, mid-April storms have brought heavy snow to the region, causing hazardous driving conditions and closures of schools and businesses.

Residents and visitors are advised to take precautions, including checking road conditions before traveling, stocking up on necessities, and preparing for power outages. The NWS has also issued a winter storm warning for the area, indicating that travel may be difficult or impossible with heavy snowfall and reduced visibility.

While it’s easy to assume that Spring means the end of winter storms, this latest forecast reminds us that it’s important to be prepared for anything. As always, it’s better to err on the side of caution and stay safe during severe weather conditions.
