So, I just read this crazy article on NPR about State Farm and how they won’t accept homeowner insurance applications in California anymore. Apparently, it’s because of all the wildfires and other natural disasters, which have made the state a high-risk area for insurers.
Basically, State Farm doesn’t want to take on any more risk, so they’re not going to offer new policies for homes in California. If you already have a policy with them, you’re fine — they’ll still cover your house. But if you’re looking to buy a new home or switch insurance providers, you’ll have to look elsewhere.
I think this is pretty wild, but I also understand why they’re doing it. After all, companies need to look out for their own interests. Still, it’s tough for people who live in California and are trying to find affordable and reliable home insurance.
On a personal note, my aunt and uncle had to deal with a wildfire a few years ago and it was a nightmare. Their home was damaged but luckily they had insurance to help with the costs. If something like that happened now, it would be even harder to find coverage.
Overall, I think this article highlights a larger issue of climate change and how it’s affecting our lives in many ways. It’s important for individuals and companies alike to take steps to reduce their impact and be prepared for the inevitable disasters that will come.
