So, I just read this gnarly article about a series of tornadoes that hit Arkansas and Iowa recently. Apparently, there are multiple states under tornado watch right now!
Basically, the article talks about how severe thunderstorms are expected to hit the central U.S, and some states are even experiencing winds of up to 70 mph. Yikes! There have already been reports of serious damage to homes and businesses, and sadly there have even been a few fatalities reported.
As someone who grew up in the Midwest, tornadoes have always been a real threat and something we take pretty seriously. I remember having tornado drills in elementary school, where we’d all have to run to the basement and huddle together until the all-clear was given. It’s scary stuff, but it’s also a reminder of the awesome (in the biblical sense of the word) power of nature.
Anyway, my main takeaway from this article is that it’s important to stay aware of weather alerts and be prepared for the worst. If you live in an area prone to severe storms, have a plan in place for where you’ll go and what you’ll do in the event of a tornado. And if you’re lucky enough to live somewhere that’s not affected by such extreme weather, be grateful, and maybe even consider donating to relief efforts to help those who weren’t so lucky. #staywoke #tornadoesarethescariest
