Weather Talk: Lightning safety tips, men struck more often

So, I just read this crazy article about lightning strikes and apparently men are getting hit more often than women. Can you believe it?

Basically, the article talks about how lightning is one of the deadliest and most unpredictable parts of a thunderstorm. And, while it’s impossible to completely avoid the risk of being struck, there are some things you can do to decrease your chances.

First off, you want to avoid being outside when a thunderstorm is happening. Duh. But, if you’re caught in the storm, try to seek shelter in a building or car with windows closed. And, if you can’t find shelter, stay away from trees and water and don’t lay flat on the ground.

Now, back to the men getting struck more often thing. One theory is that men are more likely to participate in outdoor activities during a storm, like golfing or camping, while women are more likely to head indoors.

Personally, I’ve had a close call with lightning before. I was hiking with my family and we got caught in a storm. We tried to make it back to the car, but lightning struck a tree nearby and we all hit the ground. It was scary, and definitely made me more aware of the dangers of thunderstorms.

In conclusion, lightning strikes are no joke and it’s important to take precautions when you’re caught in a storm. And, if you’re a guy, maybe think twice about continuing that golf game during a thunderstorm.
